Injury worries for Reds
United have injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s early-evening trip to Aston Villa, with Dimitar Berbatov and Wes Brown definitely out and Rio Ferdinand unlikely to play.
Bulgarian striker Berbatov sustained a hamstring injury on international duty this week, and is touch-and-go for next weekend’s Manchester derby, while Brown will be missing for several weeks after undergoing exploratory surgery on an ongoing ankle injury.
While Ferdinand is unlikely to feature at Villa Park after missing England’s midweek international with a back injury, there is some respite in the news that Wayne Rooney should be back after taking part in training for the last two days.
“Rio is very doubtful for tomorrow, I don’t think he’ll make it,” Sir Alex Ferguson told his pre-match press conference. “Rooney has a good chance, he trained on Wednesday and Thursday and if he comes through today he should be involved.
"Berbatov will miss Saturday and Tuesday's match against Villarreal, but there’s a slight chance he may be available for the City game. It’s not a tear, it’s a strain. But you don’t take any chances with hamstrings, there’s no point making it worse.
"Wes will be missing for a few weeks. There’s no timescale on it, but may be about 4-5 weeks. It’s disappointing, but we’ve got cover with Gary (Neville) and Rafael, and John O’Shea can also play there.”
The manager confirmed there were no further injury concerns, although he is yet to see Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson, who arrived home on Thursday evening after their exertions in Brazil.

Betfred have opened a market on how many Premier League goals Cristiano Ronaldo will score this season after the United winger edged closer to all sorts of records with his double against Newcastle.
The Portuguese star now has 21 league goals and he's 11/2 to bag exactly 33 and surpass Dennis Viollet's club record of 32 set in 1959/60. He's 12/1 to end the season with 34 and equal the Premier League record held by Andrew Cole (1993/94) and Alan Shearer (1994/95) - and both achieved their tallies over 42 games instead of the present 38.
To claim the outright record for himself by amassing 35 or more league goals this season, Ronaldo is a 25/1 shot.
Fred Done, a lifelong Reds fan and boss of Betfred, United’s official betting partner, said: “It’s one of the more pleasant ways of losing money but Ronaldo has cost me a fortune this season because punters just keep piling on him to score. I thought I would try to claw a bit back by opening this market.
“If he's to equal or better Dennis Viollet’s record he'll need to average a goal a game from now on. It won't be easy - United still have to play Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool - but the other games include Fulham, Derby and Wigan.”

Wayne Rooney revealed that Arsenal’s surprise draw at Birmingham gave United extra motivation to beat Newcastle.
The striker scored two of the Reds’ five goals in a superb win at St James’ Park which closed the gap on the Gunners at the top to three points.
“We saw the Arsenal result before we played and that made us want to win even more, if that's possible,” Rooney told Setanta Sports.
“We knew we had to go out there and get three points, nothing less.
“Now we have to keep working hard and winning to try and overtake Arsenal and hopefully stay there until the end of the season.”
Rooney opened the scoring with a close-range volley but he was especially pleased with his second goal, which took his tally to eight in eight league games against the Magpies.
“I enjoyed my second goal. I'm always on the edge of the box for corners and I've been saying one will drop out to me and I'll score – thankfully that happened today.”

Mak Minah dan Pak Mat ada 4 org anak perempuan yang sangat disayangi iaitu Siti, Seri, Murni dan Suri. Satu hari mereka berpakat utk kahwinkan anak2 ni serentak. Selepas selamat diijabkabulkan, ke-empat2 anak tu pun bercadang untuk pegi honeymoon. Siti pegi honeymoon ke Pulau Langkawi, Seri ke Pulau Tioman,Murni ke Pulau Kapas dan Suri ke Pulau Pangkor. Sebelum pegi Mak Minah dan Pak Mat berpesan, “nanti jgn lupa hantar berita pada mak dan ayah. Ceritakan macam mana honeymoon korang. Tak payah tulis panjang2, pakai kod iklan aja dah cukup. Ringkas, padat dan cepat.” panjang lebar Mak Minah memberi arahan pada anak2nya.
Seminggu lepas tu depa terimalah surat dari Siti yang bertulis ‘Standard Chartered’ . Tercari2lah kedua suami isteri ni iklan Standard Chartered dan bila jumpa tersenyum le kedua2nya membaca iklan yang bertulis “Besar, teguh dan peramah”.. Bahagialah Si Siti rupanya..
Esoknya terima pula surat Seri yang bertulis ‘Nescafe’. Carilah iklan Nescafe dan tersenyum lagi keduanya membaca iklan yang bertulis “Nikmatnyahingga ke titisan yang terakhir” Bahagialah Si Seri rupanya…
Selang beberapa hari kemudian, tiba pula surat Murni bertulis KFC’. Carilah iklan KFC dan tersenyum keduanya membaca iklan yang bertulis ‘Hingga Menjilat Jari’… Bahagialah Si Murni rupanya… Seminggu berlalu, tiada surat dari Suri, Mak Minah dan Pak Mat dah risau. Dua Minggu… tak ada jugak.. masuk minggu ke tiga baru sampai surat dari Suri dengan isi kandungannya “AIR ASIA “. Bergegas le Mak Minah cari iklan penerbangan tu sbb tak sabar nak tau apa yg jadi kat anak bongsunya.Bila dibaca. Mak Minah dan Pak Mat terkulat2 tak tau nak senyum atau menangis.. Apa motto iklan itu…??
